HighWater Theatre
Somebody’s Daughter Theatre, in collaboration with Gateway Health and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development worked with rural teenagers in Albury/Wodonga from 2001 to 2016.
This intensive, creatively-led education program was called, ‘HighWater Theatre’.
HighWater Animation: A quirky snapshot made by the students and artists at HighWater on why it works.
Most of the young people at HighWater are aged between 12 and 18 years, are not in the formal education system and haven’t been for some time. Most are or have been homeless. All of these young people have missed not just days, but years of schooling. Most have histories of extreme abuse and homelessness.
“HighWater Theatre is all about creating choices, providing a solid structure of support to enable young lives to walk paths in our world that were previously inaccessible to them.” Maud Clark
"Since coming to HighWater Theatre I’ve been able to settle down, find a place to stay at night. I look forward to what each day holds. I have learnt to trust again. I have found the voice that for so long had been silenced. I found I could be happier in the group. I’ve found new hope. I hope that my future is better than my past has been. With HighWater supporting me I feel that maybe it’s possible."
